Tips for mastering the art of speaking

There are several tips for mastering the art of speaking, talking, dialogue, and communicating with others, and here is a set of them:

  • The art of listening or silence: It is the first part of the art of speech, and there are two types of silence, which are positive silence and negative silence. This indicates a lack of self-confidence, so the person is silent to avoid the mockery of others or for fear of being attacked when he says an opinion that contradicts the other’s opinion, and one must master the art of listening and training in it so that he is a good listener, to understand what others are saying.
  • Not interrupting the speaker: interrupting inappropriate habits that are far from the rules of sound speech; Interrupting the speakers is considered a violation of etiquette, and one must ask the speaker’s permission in case he wants to start the conversation, because it indicates that the listener does not care about the speaker’s speech even though he wants to change it, or he is boycotted by telling him that he has gone through the same experience, and the boycott may be due to the speaker’s opposition in his point of view, or His approval of it, or the interruption of humor, and when the speaker sees that the listener is interrupting him and is not interested in his speech, he must realize that he does not like the conversation or that he is not interested in it, and he must change the conversation gradually, or change his style of speech when he notices that the listener has begun to feel bored, For example, he may use the question style instead of narration to engage the listener in the conversation.
  • Distinguishing between argument and discussion: a person must separate them, because the discussion is a dialogue between two or more parties on a specific topic, and regardless of consensus or difference in views, the goal is to reach the truth, as for argumentation, it is a characteristic that is predominantly attacked by one party. Against the other, as it is characterized by sharpness, and often the goal is to appear and triumph one person over the other, regardless of whether or not they reach the truth.
  • The taste in speaking with everyone and those who are in the circle of nobility: The circle of nobility is the circle in which a person places the people close to and with whom he deals constantly, so he takes away from the courtesy, affection, flair, and encouragement, and the matter may reach their lack of respect in speech and other things from the door of tenacity and goodness It should be noted that over time, the matter becomes linked to a lack of taste rather than to tender-heartedness and tenacity, and a person must remember that what he says or does in the circle of determination is what indicates his true personality.
  • Reducing speech: One must observe the time, not prolong his speech and not take possession of the speech alone so that the listener is not bored of it.
  • Choosing the right circumstance for speaking: It is keen to choose the appropriate time and place to talk, so a person must choose the right person to talk to him, so talking to a friend is different from talking to the boss, and speaking in a public place differs from speaking in a friend’s house.
  • Taking into account the difference of opinions: the opinions of people differ just as their shapes, height, and temperament differ, and it is worth noting that the difference in opinions should not lead to disharmony of hearts, and that is by not expecting the speaker to obtain the permanent approval of people for his views, so he may be wrong and he should not be angry or angry. Get upset or disappointed because of it.
  • Speaking as much as the minds of people: the topic that one person understands may not be understood by another person, and the topic that admires one person may not like another person, and one must not speak at a level higher or lower than the level of the listener because he will not listen to it.
  • Commitment to the goal of the conversation: is to ensure that you return to the path of speech quickly if any deviation from its path appears.
