Types of visual impairment
Nearsightedness
Seeing the things surrounding us clearly, the light rays after passing through the lens of the eye should fall on a specific point above the retina, but the rays, in this case, are located in front of the retina and not above it, and because of this, an additional lens must be placed in front of the eye to help it collect the rays, and then send them To the retina and not in front of it, and this process helps to see the near images clearly, while the far ones cannot be seen clearly.
For the treatment of nearsightedness by laser, the central part of the cornea is flattened by scraping a certain degree of the central section of the cornea. As for astigmatism, it is treated by making the cornea more spherical, by removing more layers of the cornea in one part than the other.
Farsightedness
In this case, the opposite happens, as the light rays do not fall in front of the retina, but fall behind it, so the eye needs an additional lens to help the eye collect the light rays and send them to the retina and not behind it, and in this process it is not possible to see close images clearly, but only distant objects.
Wear sunglasses
Sunglasses block harmful ultraviolet rays, thus protecting the eyes from cataracts, and preventing retinal damage and other diseases.
Quit smoking
Smoking is associated with many diseases, including age-related macular degeneration, and studies have shown that smokers, whether current or former, are more likely to develop macular degeneration, and more likely to develop cataracts.
Take care of contact lenses
The misuse of contact lenses, such as: sleeping in them, or using saliva, water, or an expired solution to wet them, leads to health problems in the eyes, such as corneal ulcers, severe pain in the eyes, and vision loss.
Avoid eye strain
Eyes get tired as a result of working on computers or others, so it is recommended to follow the 20-20-20 rule, which means doing work for 20 minutes, and then looking at a place 20 feet away, that is, six meters for 20 seconds, and if eye fatigue continues, this Indicates that the eye has various symptoms, such as dryness, or presbyopia.
Eat foods that improve eyesight
It is recommended to follow a healthy and integrated diet rich in fruits and vegetables rich in antioxidants, vitamins A, C, E, zeaxanthin, lutein, beta-carotene, omega-3 fatty acids, and zinc, such as fish, especially salmon, eggs, nuts, and seeds, such as almonds, nuts, sunflower seeds, and beans. Peanuts and dairy products, such as yogurt, milk, carrots, cabbage, red peppers, spinach, and oranges.
Other tips to avoid double vision
It is recommended to follow the following things to avoid double vision:
- Do an eye examination periodically every two or three years for those under the age of fifty, and annually for those over the age of fifty or who have any health problems.
- Follow a healthy lifestyle.
